About birth with power and strength

A serene landscape featuring mountains, a lake, and a clear blue sky, ideal for nature lovers.

Philosophy

I believe that pregnancy is a natural and beautiful experience that should be embraced with joy and excitement.  As an experienced birth doula my goal is to provide holistic care that supports the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of my clients with unconditional attention from the time we meet and establishing a strong relationship of trust and understanding so they can be the main character during this life changing event. Using the 6 healthy birth practices of the Lamaze philosophy is the way I have been working succesfully for the last 10 years !

My passion for being a doula grows every day and I wish that some day every expecting family could be able to have a doula during their birth experience.

My Services

  • I offer a comprehensive range of services, including prenatal -childbirth education classes or intensive Lamaze workshops,  birth doula support, and postpartum coaching. My goal is to empower my clients with the knowledge and tools they need to make informed decisions about their care and achieve the most positive birth experience. I offer photography throughout your labor journey and childbirth and provide you with all of the photos same day digitally.

  • I have attended and assisted over 75 births, if needed I got trained to support as a doula in the OR.

  • I just became a certified ante natal and post natal fitness coach with ISSA !! So I'm ready to start coaching some pre/post natal  fitness with my clients and others who might be interested.

  • I feel so blessed to be part of a doula cooperative in central Illinois called doulasetc.org which is a beautiful community of doulas who learn and collaborate together and support each other as back up doulas and in many other ways.

My Approach

You should know I'm 100% bilingual English/Spanish as I was born and raised in Mexico City.

Offering a collaborative approach to pregnancy care, working closely with my clients to develop a personalized care plan that meets their unique needs and preferences. Working along with experienced healthcare providers like the Midwives and Doctors, I am committed to provide evidence-based information that promotes optimal health and wellness for both mom and baby as well as actively involving the partner in this incredible journey.

A birth doula that will help with advocacy during your labor and childbirth experience and will make sure to provide you with comfort measures and emotional/physical support continuously to make this experience the most memorable one.

DOULA SERVICES

Aside from having trained with DONA I also had the privilege to take a workshop with the mother of all doulas and renowned author PENNY SIMKIN.

Doula

A trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to their client before, during and shortly after childbirth to help them achieve the healthiest, most satisfying experience possible.

Trained and certified with DONA International, my approach is simple: Every expecting parent deserves a doula! but why a doula ???

Research shows that women value and benefit from the presence of a support person during labour and childbirth. This support may include emotional support (continuous presence, reassurance and praise) and information about labour progress. It may also include advice about coping techniques, comfort measures (comforting touch, massage, warm baths/showers, encouraging mobility, promoting adequate fluid intake and output) and speaking up when needed on behalf of the woman. Lack of continuous support during childbirth has led to concerns that the experience of labour and birth may have become dehumanised.

Courtney Mann

After not having a doula for my first pregnancy/delivery, I decided my husband could use come extra help assisting me in my second delivery. I’m so glad that we chose to have Datia there! She is so calm, caring, and extremely knowledgeable. I am eternally grateful for Datia’s support, especially how she helped reduce labor pains by coaching me through my contractions. She checked in on me and baby once we were home to make sure we had a smooth transition.

Courtney and Matt Krafczik

My partner and I first met Datia when I was 18 weeks into my pregnancy. We knew immediately that she was going to be our doula. She was so easy to talk to, and her approach to birth aligned well with our plans. Datia was available and helpful throughout my pregnancy – I especially appreciated this toward the end when I was uncomfortable and tired. On my due date when the baby hadn’t come and I was getting impatient, Datia took me to the Y for a walk and it really lifted my spirits! When labor did start 4 days later, Datia was with me from the time I called her at 4:30 am. It was reassuring to have her there with all her experience, as this was my first baby and I wasn’t sure what to expect. As much as I had read and prepared myself for laboring, when it was actually happening I forgot almost everything I’d learned. Datia was there to remind me of different coping strategies and to help me stay calm even as labor got more intense. My favorite pain relief was a hot shower, and Datia stood next to me spraying me with water and guiding my breathing for hours, while also giving my partner space to help me and be involved in the process. I was able to have my baby without pain meds and with minimal intervention, and I absolutely would not have been able to do it without her. An added bonus was that she was able to take pictures of the birth and the first minutes after. My partner and I were too caught up in the moment to do it ourselves, and I’m grateful we have those memories recorded! I’ll definitely be recommending her to my pregnant friends! Matt wrote:

As a labor support person, Datia was a wonderful help. She reminded us of many different labor positions and pain relief methods as well as helped execute these methods. She also took over when I was tired and allowed my wife to have help at all times during labor.

Without her, we might not have succeeded in following our birth plan.

From Mexico, Eugenia Obregon:

Gracias Datia! Hoy justo estábamos recordando mi parto y la enorme ayuda que fuiste para mi, gran guía y compañía en un momento tan importante en mi vida! Por eso estaré eternamente agradecida! Te mando abrazos....

KRISTINA

Our son was born at 40.5 weeks with undiagnosed IUGR. He was 5 lbs, 12 oz with immeasurably low blood sugar. My husband and I credit Datia with potentially saving our son’s life. Datia made us feel very comfortable contacting her whenever we needed it and she even stopped by the day before our son was born just to see how I was reacting to my mild contractions. As a first time mom, you really don’t know what to expect and when is the proper time to go to the hospital. While I was having these irregular painful contractions, the 5-5-1 contraction rule was going through my head and I was very hesitant to make the decision to go to the hospital. Well after days of contractions, even some that woke me up at night or made it too painful to sit, but never even close to 5 minutes apart, Datia texted me and suggested we go to the hospital to be monitored. I had been thinking the same thing at that time but was too timid to call L&D. Her text came at the perfect time and gave me the confidence I needed. When we got to the hospital, we quickly found that our son’s heart rate was dropping with every contraction. Within a few hours we were rushed back to an emergency c-section. We found out my cord had started failing weeks ago which resulted in an 8-day stay in the NICU. Datia didn’t play the stereotypical doula role in my birth experience, but her willingness to be a part of every step of labor, starting weeks ahead of time, made all of the difference. I so wish she could be our doula next time (but being grad students we’ll probably be elsewhere!). She’s become a great friend to us and will always have an honorary spot in our growing family!

Diana

Datia made my second pregnancy/labor/delivery a wonderful experience. As my delivery date approached I began to get nervous and decided at the last minute to have a doula for support. When I met Datia it was as if I had known her for years. She was so easy to talk to and made me feel very comfortable. She accompanied me to appointments and was there the minute I got admitted to labor and delivery and was with me for over 19 hours! My goal was to have an unmedicated labor and delivery with minimal medical intervention and I accomplished that thanks to Datia. She is very knowledgeable and was able to coach me through the contractions. She's a great advocate and made sure my wishes were always at the forefront. Once we were home she stopped by to check on us and she continues to stay in touch via text to make sure we're doing okay. I wish I would have met her sooner but I'm just glad she was able to accomodate me despite being at the end of my pregnancy. She is phenomenal!
